Adoptive Family Therapy

Adoptive families face an added dimension to their relationships not realized by other families.  For the adopted child, some of the common issues may include feelings of abandonment, low self-esteem, issues of attachment, and feelings related to belonging.  It can also be challenging to explore emotions around adoptive and biological lineage. For adoptive parents, being conflicted about searching, finding, and reuniting with birth families is a normal response, and one of many responses that can impact family dynamics.

As an adoptee myself, I appreciate that every adoption story is different and that each family holds its own gifts and strengths.  My approach is to work with the family system to acknowledge, explore and ultimately address challenges.
